Arunachalam Muruganantam was born in 1962 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Because of his father’s death in a road accident, he had to spend his childhood in poverty. Mother used to work in fields and used to live. At the age of 14, her school was also missed. After that he did many types of work to help the family.
Arunachalam got married in peace in 1998. But he saw one day that his wife used dirty clothes and newspapers during the periods because sanitary pad used to be expensive. Just after this, Arunachalam got ready to deal with this problem.
Arunachalam first started using padded cotton using cotton. His wife and sister rejected it at once. Both also refused to co-operate with Arunachalam. If he did not get a volunteer for this work then he started testing the sanitary pad itself. Although the people of the village opposed him.
It took two years for Arunachalam to know that commercial pads are made of cellulose. But the machine that made it was very expensive, so he intends to make a machine himself and Rs 65,000 Made the machine ready. They used it to make pads.
This experiment of Arunachalam was recognized all over the world and it played an important role in changing the lives of many women. Many other entrepreneurs also took inspiration from them. These mini machines have been installed in 23 of the 29 states and they are taken at one third of the cost of sanitary pads in the pad market. They are preparing to take this project to 106 countries.
